Management Structure and Network Organisation

The project management follows a simple structure with clear definitions of responsibilities and decision-making mechanisms.

Steering Committee (SC)

The Steering Committee (SC) consists of high-level representatives of MARTEC partner countries for approval of decisions made by the board of programme managers / task leaders. The members of the Steering Committee are not necessarily involved in individual national marine research programme management, but represent the decision making body in their countries/organisations The SC meets once a year and the tasks of the SC are to:

The SC confirms that the activities within MARTEC are in accordance with national research funding policies.

Board of Program Managers (BPM)

The coordinator is supported by a Board of Programme Managers (BPM) who takes care of coordination of the network activities within and between the WPs. This includes follow-up of the networking activities, supporting WP leaders in planning and scheduling task activities, supporting internal and external reporting and documentation, organisation of the SC and BPM meetings as well as supporting WP leaders in arranging meetings. The BPM consists of one representative per partner organisation.

Observer Organisations (OB)

OB The Observer organisations participate in MARTEC II in order to learn from the partners and to discuss relevant topics. Observers cannot vote against any decisions of the MARTEC Steering Committee. They are not ready to join MARTEC II as a full partner at the moment. Most of them have no relevant programme or no experiences.

Observers will not receive any direct funds. One person per observer can participate in MARTEC general open meetings. Travel costs for that person will be reimbursed after each meeting. Further persons need a confirmation letter (allowance of an official journey) to reimburse travel costs from the coordinator.

Maritime Technology Platform (WATERBORNE)

WATERBORNE is the European technology Platform (ETP) dealing with the R&D issues of the waterbone (sea and inland) sector. The platform was launched in 2005 with the objective to establish a continuous dialogue on R&D between all stakeholders involved in waterborne transport. A closer co-operation with other maritime and marine networks like WATERBORNETP within MARTEC II is essential for the direct input from the industry and the research community.

Work package 1-6 (WP)

Each of the six work package is subdivided into a set of objectives, a series of tasks and set of deliverables. Work package activities are managed by a work package Leader.
